The Blue Whale of Catoosa is so iconic to Route 66 that Mercedes-Benz highlighted it in their recent commercial about road trips. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the extended version below.

I beam with pride every time this commercial comes on because it feels like a piece of my own journey is being shared with the world. We crossed paths with the Blue Whale back in 2016 on our second Route 66 adventure. It’s a quick stop, but it’s one you’ll never forget. It is iconic Route 66, and you’ll want to tell everyone about that time you saw the Blue Whale of Catoosa

Here’s what you need to know before visiting this spot along Route 66.

Visiting the Blue Whale of Catoosa

First, can we establish some ground rules? Don’t jump in the water and don’t carve or write on the whale (absolutely not cool, guys!)

But you can leave your mark on the picnic table nearby. They even leave sharpies out to make it more convenient. But once again, not an invitation to draw on the whale, so please don’t ruin it for others.

Be sure to climb the ladder that leads to the top of the tail for an awesome photo opp.

Things to do Nearby

The best thing you can do when you’re near the Whale is to get to know Tulsa better. Catch a show at Cain’s Ballroom, explore the Philbrook Museum of Art, get dinner at Caz’s Chowhouse, or grab a drink at Prairie Brewpub or Bricktown Brewery (this one is a favorite of mine!)

Places to Eat Near the Blue Whale of Catoosa

If you’re looking to grab a bite to eat close to the Blue Whale of Catoosa, check out Flo’s Burger Diner or the Lodge Eatery and Pub. If you’re looking to try something familiar, there are plenty of chain restaurants as well, and even a Hard Rock Cafe.

Places to Stay Nearby

Catoosa is just on the outskirts of Tulsa, and there are plenty of options for places to sleep if you are ending your day here. You can check out the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, or the Homewood Suites nearby. If you’re headed in the opposite direction, check out the Hampton Inn & Suites in Claremore.
